Itinerary

Upon arrival at the Lima airport, you will be greeted by our Inca Expert Travel representative. After a transfer to your confirmed Lima hotel and assistance with the check in, you’ll be provided with everything needed in preparation for your upcoming journey.

Use this arrival day to rejuvenate yourself by resting or enjoying hotel spa services. If arriving early to Lima, take a scenic walk to Parque del Amor (Love Park) in Miraflores for views of Lima’s gorgeous coastline or dine in at one of the many gourmet restaurants throughout the city.

The capital of Lima is home to some of Peru’s oldest historical treasures amidst the modern city landscape. Join your guide for a private tour of Lima’s UNESCO-recognized Historic Center, home to the Governmental Palace, the Lima Cathedral, and San Francisco Catacombs. Your final stop on the tour is the world renowned Larco Museum, who’s exposition of pre-Inca and Inca artifacts will encapsulate you.

This morning you’ll transfer aboard a comfortable first-class bus to the town of Pisco. Watch the coastal landscapes roll by before arriving at the Pisco airport. Store your luggage here, then board a small aircraft for a thrilling flight over the mysterious Nazca Lines.

Afterwards, you’ll be transferred to your Paracas hotel to spend the rest of the day at your leisure. We recommend you relax by the pool and take in the stunning sunset over Paracas Bay.

Ballestas Islands is one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the Earth and today you will embark on a 2-hour boat tour to experience it for yourself. Hear the roars of sea lions and witness teeming colonies of seabirds as they dive into the waters and soar above you. You may even spot dolphins and Humboldt penguins.

After the tour, enjoy the bus ride back to your Lima hotel for one last dinner in the capital city.

Fly to Arequipa where you’ll meet our representative to transfer you to your hotel. After some free time, your guide will meet you back at your hotel for a private tour of Arequipa’s highlights. Take a closer look at the mestizo baroque architecture, visit the San Ignacio Chapel, the imposing Basilica Cathedral, and the mini city of Santa Catalina Monastery. Then you’ll drive to a lookout point for views of the elegant Arequipa city framed by Misti Volcano.

The 3-hour drive from Arequipa to the Colca Canyon passes through the extraordinary landscapes of the Reserva Nacional de Salinas y Aguada Blanca. Pristine landscapes dotted with animals grazing makes for fantastic photography opportunities. Before the descent, you’ll reach Patapampa Pass at a staggering elevation of 16,109 feet (4,910 meters).

Stop in Chivay village for lunch, visit Calera Hot Springs, and continue to your lodge for a relaxing night. After sunset, we recommend you peer up at the starlit skies untouched by light pollution.

Your guide will meet you early this morning, the choice time to view condors, and bring you to Mirador Cruz del Condor where you’ll gaze in awe at the size of the condors gliding on thermal drifts over the gaping canyon below.

Return to Chivay for lunch and then begin the 5-6 hour drive to your Puno hotel. Remember that Lake Titicaca is at higher elevation than Colca Canyon. Take time to rest, try out spa services, or do some light exploration while you acclimate.

Begin your waterborne exploration of the world’s highest navigable lake - Lake Titicaca. Feel the sensation of standing on Uros Floating Islands and learn about how indigenous people maintain their long held traditions in a high altitude environment. Finish with a hike on Taquile Island to take in a spectacular sunset over the lake before the boat ride back to your hotel.

Rejuvenate yourself with a day of doing nothing but enjoying the incredible vistas of Lake Titicaca and your hotel amenities. After lunch, board the boat back to Puno for one last hotel night on the shores of this illustrious landscape.

After a hearty breakfast at your hotel, transfer to the bus station to begin the journey from Puno to Cusco. The comfortable, first-class bus maximizes your time by including stops along the way at esteemed archeological sites including Raqchi and the “Sistine Chapel of the Andes” Andahuaylillas.

Upgrade: Ride aboard the luxurious overnight Andean Explorer - A Belmond Train to Cusco. Depending on the season, service is limited to 1-2 weekly departures.

Immerse yourself into the story of Cusco’s past with a private guided tour of its foremost historic sites. Start with a visit to the impressive Cusco Cathedral and Coricancha temple. Then ascend above the sea of terracotta roofs as you visit the monumental Sacsayhuaman citadel.

The afternoon is yours to spend at your leisure. Explore new flavors or pick up souvenirs at the San Pedro Market or wander the cobblestone streets of bohemian San Blas.

After a satiating breakfast your guide will meet you for the scenic private drive through the Sacred Valley. Your private tour will visit the Moray archaeological site and multi-hued salt pans of Maras and delight you with the intellectual legacy of the Incas. The tour ends with a visit to the monolithic fortress ruins of Ollantaytambo but the sightseeing continues. Gaze at the changing landscapes on your comfortable train ride to Aguas Calientes, base town for Machu Picchu.

An early morning rewards you with a momentous day of exploring the “lost city of the Incas”. Your private tour guide will take you through the iconic ruins of Machu Picchu, discussing the mystery and skill of its construction as you absorb the magical landscape that surrounds this important ruin. Return to Aguas Calientes for the train journey back to Cusco where your driver will be waiting at the station to take you to your hotel for some much deserved rest.

Upgrade options:
Climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for views over the ruins or add an extra day in Machu Picchu.

Your jungle adventure begins with a flight to Puerto Maldonado. The lodge staff will greet you upon arrival, transfer you to the lodge office to safely store large luggage items, and board a motorized canoe to travel along the river to your lodge. Keep your eyes peeled for first sightings of birds, reptiles, and animals along the banks of the Madre de Dios river.

Spend the afternoon with your naturalist guide doing some light exploration as you acclimate to the rainforest environment.

Escape into the bliss of unencumbered nature. Your excursion today will delight you with the incredible biodiversity of Peru’s rainforest. Visit an oxbow lake to observe hoatzin birds, squirrel monkeys, giant otters, and black caiman. Learn about medicinal plants and how Amazonian communities use them, and taste flavors only found here.

As night descends, listen to the sounds of the rainforest coming to life while you join your guide to explore the forest and spot critters that only come out after dark.

Start your day with a sunrise over the Amazon and breakfast in your lodge before you visit a clay lick where parrots and macaws gather in colorful flocks. After you’ve taken enough pictures, you’ll explore a trail that winds through giant ceiba trees reaching over 500 feet (150 meters) tall. Then, travel by boat to an organic farm where locals cultivate a range of fruits and vegetables, some of which will be strange and others familiar.

After a final breakfast at the lodge, embark on the scenic return boat journey back to Puerto Maldonado. Pick up your stored luggage from the lodge office as you say goodbye to your naturalist guide and continue onwards to the airport. Alternatively, you can continue your adventure by adding extra activities and destinations to this itinerary.
