Follow the Peruvian culinary path and the iconic Inca Trail on this 11-day tour. Start in Lima, the gastronomic capital of Peru. Dine at Central Restaurant, ranked among the top ten restaurants in the world, before journeying into the Andes. You’ll explore top sites in Cusco and the Sacred Valley, including an 8-course tasting menu at MIL restaurant on the edge of the Moray ruins.
After this culinary experience, you’ll embark on the classic Inca Trail. Beginning in the Sacred Valley outside of Cusco, a 500 year old stone path built for exclusive use by the Inca king and his entourage today takes a limited number of trekkers on a 4-day, 28-mi (45-km) journey past ruins with names like “town in the clouds.” Waiting at the end of this challenging trek is an unforgettable first look at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate entrance.

Itinerary

Our Inca Expert Travel representative will greet you upon arrival at the Lima airport. Your private transfer will bring you to your confirmed luxury Lima hotel. Here you’ll be briefed about your trip and provided with everything needed for your upcoming journey.

Use your first day to rejuvenate yourself by resting or enjoying hotel spa services. If arriving early to Lima, take a scenic walk through the bohemian neighborhood of Barranco for views of Lima’s gorgeous coastline, or dine at one of the many gourmet restaurants within walking distance of your hotel.

Start your morning with a gourmet breakfast at your luxury hotel, before visiting the Historic Center of Lima, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

After lunch at one of the top restaurants in Lima, resume your afternoon with a walking tour around the artsy Barranco district. Learn about its history as you gaze at colonial mansions, taste Peruvian flavors, and immerse yourself in its sounds and smells.

Finally, enjoy an epic 11-course tasting menu at Central, one of the top 10 restaurants in the world.

Upon arrival in Cusco, you’ll be met by an Inca Expert representative who will brief you about your trip. Your private driver will then take you through the cobblestone streets of Cusco on the way to the nearby Sacred Valley. As you leave the city, admire the landscapes roll full of lush fields and distant snow-capped mountains.

You’ll have time to stop for an appetizing lunch before visiting the spectacular Maras salt mines. These ancient pools on terraced mountainsides collect natural saltwater that crystallizes and can be harvested. Take in the spectacular views and purchase some of this natural salt at a local market near the site.

After enjoying breakfast at your Sacred Valley hotel, your tour guide will meet you and bring you to the breathtaking Ollantaytambo fortress. Learn about its history and take in the views before being taken to MIL restaurant. Winner of the world’s top chef award Virgilio Martinez created this restaurant to explore Andean ingredients and bring you a delicious food experience with incomparable views: the Incan ruin of Moray.

Enjoy your 8-course lunch at MIL included in your tour package, and then explore this enigmatic site with your expert tour guide.

After a private transfer back to your Sacred Valley hotel, relax and take it easy with spa services or star gazing.

The Inca Trail is the same path once walked by the royal Inca over 500 years ago. Today you’ll begin this 28 mile (45 km) hike with a drive from your Cusco hotel through the Sacred Valley and arrive at Km 82 - the trailhead of the Inca Trail.

Take in the landscapes around you, from the terraces in the mountains, to the Inca ruins, to the streams and orchids lining your path. After 3 hours you’ll arrive to Llactapata ruins. Continue onwards through the lush valley before arriving at the campsite of Wayllabamba for a well deserved rest.

Today is the most challenging portion of the trail, as you climb 3 hours to Warmiwañusca, known as Dead Woman's Pass, at 13,780 feet. From the top you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys. The hike ends at the Pacaymayo campsite with views of snow-capped Mount Veronica and a deliciously prepared meal from your camp chef.

Today you'll trek through truly gorgeous valleys into the mountain cloud forest. Highlights include Runkurakay Pass, Sayacmarca ruins, and the stunning Phuyupatamarca, “The Town in the Clouds.” The day ends at the impressive Wiñay Wayna ruins, giving you a taste of what’s to come tomorrow. Here you can enjoy beer, a shower, and a good night’s rest.

The sun’s rays rising over the mountainscape around the Machu Picchu citadel is what many travelers dream of experiencing, and today you’ll rise early to hike the remainder of the Inca Trail to the Sun Gate at Machu Picchu to witness this spectacular natural moment.

Enjoy a two-hour tour of this majestic Inca citadel and take some time to savor your accomplishment as you soak in the views. Your tour guide will discuss the mystery and skill of its construction as you absorb the magical landscape that surrounds this important ruin. Return to Aguas Calientes for a mouthwatering lunch before the train journey back to the Sacred Valley. Your driver will be waiting at the station to take you back to your Sacred Valley hotel for some much-deserved rest.

After a sublime breakfast with spectacular views of the Andes Mountains, you’ll visit the Pisac ruins with time to visit the famous Pisac Market as you learn about its history and importance. After you’ve had your fill of shopping, your journey continues on to Cusco. After lunch, you’ll visit the Cusco Cathedral and the most important temple of the Inca Empire: Coricancha. Indulge in the flavors and sites of the bustling San Pedro Market where your guide will point out the locally-grown fruits and vegetables, some new and some familiar. Next, head into the San Blas neighborhood to watch artisans at work and purchase some unique Peruvian souvenirs.

Enjoy Peruvian ingredients alongside American breakfast classics at your luxury hotel. Today in Cusco you’ll visit the Inca ruins of Q’enqo and Sacasyhuamán which overlook the city. Explore these enigmatic sites with your private guide who will point out important details and little-known facts about these fascinating sites. You’ll be dropped off at your luxury Cusco hotel after your tour.

Your Inca Expert Travel Advisor will be glad to share personalized restaurant recommendations and tips for how to spend your free time.

Enjoy a final breakfast at your Cusco hotel. Our Inca Expert representative will meet you in time to transfer you to the airport to begin your journey back home.
