Heading out early from your Cusco hotel, you will travel to Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley, and continue another hour to the start of the trail at Km 82. Walking for about 3 hours along the trail you will arrive at the Llactapata ruins, and then continuing through a lush valley, you will arrive at the evening campsite of Wayllabamba.

Today is the most challenging portion of the trail, as you climb 3 hours to Warmiwañusca, known as Dead Woman's Pass, at 13,780 feet. From the top you'll be able to take in breaktaking views of the surrounding valleys. The hike ends at the Pacaymayo campsite with views of snow-capped Mount Veronica.

Today you'll trek through truly gorgeous valleys into the mountain cloud forest. Highlights include Runkurakay Pass, Sayacmarca ruins, and the stunning Phuyupatamarca, “The Town in the Clouds.” The day ends at Wiñay Wayna where you can enjoy a beer, a shower, and a good night’s rest.

Rising early to make it for sunrise over Machu Picchu, you will hike for about an hour to reach the "Sun Gate," where you will get your first view of Machu Picchu.

Enjoy a two-hour tour of this majestic Inca citadel and savor your accomplishment. Then head down to the train station in Aguas Calientes pueblo for the return to Cusco.
