Discover the fascinating landscapes and thrilling wildlife of the Galapagos while spending your evenings in a comfortable island-based lodge.
The Galapagos experience is one dominated by close encounters with one-of-a-kind animal species and fascinating island diversity. Instead of exploring this remote archipelago by cruise, this 6-day land-based itinerary concentrates your discovery on and around the fascinating island of Santa Cruz. Daily excursions take you hiking over lava flows, snorkeling with sea lions, looking for marine iguanas, and so much more. During the evenings, enjoy free time at your leisure and take in the local island culture.
Upon arrival at Guayaquil airport, meet our representative for a transfer to your comfortable hotel. Enjoy a restful night or go out to the riverside Malecon where locals congregate.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to the Galapagos. Meet our representative on arrival at Baltra airport to take a short ferry ride to Santa Cruz Island and a 45-minute drive to Puerto Ayora. In the afternoon, hike to Los Gemelos for a close look at collapsed lava chambers. Visit a private reserve where giant tortoises roam freely.
Depart from German Beach and paddle through mangrove forests until you reach Franklin Bay. Keep a close lookout for pelicans, blue-footed boobies, and many other birds. Cool down with some snorkeling in the crystal clear waters of Las Grietas.
In the afternoon, visit the Charles Darwin Station to see tortoises and learn more about local conservation efforts.
Transfer to Itabaca Channel and set sail for the day’s destination. Weather conditions, tides, and Galapagos National Park regulations will determine which island you visit today. Regardless, you’re in for a treat. Bartolome, Seymour, Santa Fe, and South Plaza each boast unique Galapagos species both on land and in the water as well as vistas that will take your breath away.
Return to Santa Cruz in the afternoon and enjoy a relaxing evening at the lodge.
Enjoy a hike to beautiful beaches just outside of town where you’ll have a chance to swim and snorkel. Next, drive to the highlands of Santa Cruz and visit a local farm to sample coffee, sugarcane honey, and other specialties.
After lunch, join your guide for a walking tour of Puerto Ayora. Visit handicraft stores and the fish market where the animal residents of the island vie for scraps.
Transfer by ferry to the airport for your flight from Baltra to mainland Ecuador.
You can customize this itinerary to include exciting exploration of mainland Ecuador.
